Module 17: Coaching Neurodivergent and Hypermobile Lifters – And Other Specialist Populations

This module teaches you how to coach lifters who don’t fit the “typical athlete” mould - and how to do it without dumbing down your programming or losing the structure of the Conjugate Method. You’ll learn how to adapt training and communication for neurodivergent lifters (ADHD, autism, OCD, etc.), hypermobile athletes (including EDS), and other populations with specific physical or neurological needs. We break down how to structure training environments that reduce overwhelm and increase engagement, how to programme around proprioception issues, sensory overload, and chronic fatigue, and how to coach athletes who might move brilliantly one day and struggle the next. You’ll also learn how to adapt cues, movement selection, fatigue management, and even peak strategies to suit non-linear recovery patterns and variable tolerance. This isn’t about simplifying training - it’s about becoming a more precise, thoughtful, and effective coach for all lifters. What You’ll Learn: How to coach ADHD, autistic, OCD, and hypermobile lifters using Conjugate principles Adjusting communication, structure, and feedback for different neurotypes Programming strategies for fatigue, proprioception, and joint instability Creating psychologically safe and physically effective training environments When and how to adapt DE, ME, and accessory work without compromising results Supporting athletes with long-term needs through sustainable training Why It Matters: Strength is for everyone - but not every athlete thrives under the same coaching style. Neurodivergent and hypermobile lifters are overrepresented in strength sports - and often underserved by coaches who don’t know how to adapt. This module teaches you how to meet them where they are, while still building strong, high-performing athletes.
